Future contributors

Prepare a record that can carry its own history.

Clio is not accepting public submissions yet. This is a preparation guide—not a sign-up or upload flow—so you can see what a future contribution will ask for and what Clio will, and will not, claim about it.

Account linking, local owner identity custody, personal Veritas chains, Clio receipts, upload handling, review and DOI operations are being integrated and tested before public intake begins.

Planned workflow

What the contribution path is being built to do.

The steps are deliberately separate: publishing, review and DOI registration each have their own status. A record can be public and unreviewed; a DOI can be pending; neither condition is a quality verdict.

  1. Link an account to your owner identity.

    A future Clio account will be authenticated through an OIDC provider and linked, by an owner-signed statement, to a locally controlled did:maatara. The account login is not the source of that identity.

  2. Describe the observation or object.

    Prepare event, authorship, rights and record-type information alongside the original media or supporting material. Standards fields and sensitive information will be handled according to the record type and access policy.

  3. Check rights, care and safety.

    You will need permission to deposit the material and a suitable licence. Exact locations, human privacy, Indigenous knowledge, sensitive species and culturally governed material may require restriction, generalisation or refusal from an open collection.

  4. Publish a versioned record.

    After required metadata, object checks, signature and safety checks pass, a valid record is intended to receive a stable Clio URI. Later corrections will be new linked versions, never silent replacements.

  5. Follow independent record statuses.

    Clio plans to record publication, discoverability, editorial review and DOI progress separately. A Clio trust log with Ma’atara integration in progress will pair your planned personal Veritas chain with a separate Clio institutional receipt.

Readiness checklist

Useful things to gather now.

For the record

  • Original files and a note of how and when they were made.
  • Who created or observed the material, and any collaborators to credit.
  • Location and method details you are permitted to share.
  • Identification or interpretation notes, with uncertainty stated plainly.

For responsible deposit

  • Rights and licence information for every file.
  • Any access restriction or cultural governance requirement.
  • Supporting context needed to understand the record later.
  • A willingness to respond through a documented correction or review process.

What a future status will mean.

Unreviewed

No curator has made a finding under Clio’s published standard. It does not mean the record is low quality.

DOI pending

Once DOI operations are live, every accepted item will enter one registration job. Clio will not display an identifier as registered until a provider confirms it.

Corrected or hidden

Corrections remain linked to prior versions. A hidden record can retain a resolvable landing page while being excluded from discovery.
