Future curators

Good judgment needs an accountable home.

Curator applications are not open yet. This page explains the evidence and continuing responsibilities Clio is designing for, without presenting a live application or granting authority by credential alone.

Prepare an application

Show the scope of your care and judgment.

A future application will ask for evidence, context and conflicts—not simply a résumé. It will support professional, academic and community expertise, including a specific exceptional-amateur route.

Evidence to prepare

A body of work, in context.

A statement of subject scope and community motivation.
Three or more representative works, records, publications, collections or public contributions.
ORCID and affiliations where available.
Relevant academic, professional or community credentials where applicable.
Conflicts and any policy-required conduct disclosures.

Exceptional amateur route

Deep practice is evidence too.

Formal credentials will not be the only route. Applicants without them may apply through an exceptional_amateur route, supported by a substantial, publicly inspectable record of careful work, community standing and appropriate subject-scope evidence.

This route does not lower the standard or bypass independent approval; it recognises that expertise can be earned outside institutions.

Authority with a record

Approval will be independent, scoped and reversible.

A future curator role is an accountable Clio appointment, not something inferred from OIDC, a DID, employment, ORCID or academic title.

Independent approval

At least two authorised people will make independent decisions. An applicant cannot decide their own application.

Defined authority

A grant will record subject scope, approvers, term and revocation history. It will not promise authority outside that scope.

Attributable findings

Each review finding is intended to identify the curator, evidence, policy version and rationale commitment, preserving accountability over time.

Annual service

A curator role is continued through contribution.

Future terms will include an annual continuation check: accepted reviews in the relevant subject scope, conduct and conflict confirmation, and a choice to continue. Quantity alone will not be enough; overturned or poor-quality findings may not count.

What continuation supports

Curators may receive a public service profile, annual community-contribution summary, acknowledgement and citable contribution report. These recognise service; they are not an academic endorsement.

What happens if service pauses

Failure to respond before a term ends is intended to pause new assignments, not erase historic attribution. Findings, scopes and decisions remain part of the accountable record.
